Career Aspirations
My breadth of technical and practical experience, now complemented with the Masters in Business Systems Analysis and Design, will allow me to move forward with confidence and expertise into the IT Management and Systems Analysis arena. I would hope to find a blue chip or financial sector organisation that would be able to exploit my skills whilst enabling me to further develop my competencies.
Having been involved with the Internet since it’s evolution in the 1990’s I am well placed to utilise my experience at a high level to implement B2B and B2C applications. I have always found great satisfaction from automating business processes to improve efficiency, eliminate duplication of work and reduce costs.
Whilst studying at City University, I have found that my latent knowledge and skills have crystallised and further transformed into a deeper understanding of management and the processes required to successfully integrate technology into the business procedures across industry. I particularly enjoyed the various team work projects and the study of Belbins’ psychometric tests which reveal the profiles of different team-roles. What I might once have considered to be management jargon or psycho-babble has been demonstrated to be accurate in practice. Effective teamwork is a skill to be mastered, and now understanding how and why conflicts occur enables me to interact with assurance when faced with different personalities in a working group. Having the knowledge to form effective teams with compatible members is essential for an organisation to achieve its goals.
Taking on the role of Vice-Chairman for the Staff Council at the Special Court was a challenge which broadened my people and diplomacy skills. Dealing with various conflicts and disputes, acting as a management go-between will certainly stand me in good stead in any future role.
With a keen mind, excellent communication skills, self motivation and being always prepared to give 110% in order to achieve a projects objectives I consider myself a potential asset to any organisation. I have been described on more than one occasion as “A guy who makes things happen”.
Hobbies & Personal Interests
Having run the New York marathon, I am keen to maintain a high level of fitness and regularly run between 6 and 10 miles. In my spare time I enjoy web design and maintain my own blog site at www.cannycookie.com . As an accomplished DJ I have produced several CD’s and still am loyal to the dying vinyl format, whilst embracing CD’s and MP3’s as an inevitable progression.
